Rethink Mcr meeting this Weds 11th Oct

We're meeting this Wednesday 11th October from 6 - 7:30pm at at our new venue, Manchester Digital Laboratory ('MadLab'). All are welcome.  MadLab is located on Edge Street in the Northern Quarter, just a short walk from Piccadilly Station, Piccadilly Gardens and Shudehill Metrolink. Our speaker this month is Tabbs Nyathi, a Senior Mental Health Practitioner from Manchester Offenders Diversion Engagement and Liaison 'MODEL', part of Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. He is coming to talk about his specialist work in the criminal justice system. His colleagues from the Greater Manchester Liaison and Diversion Service will also attend to give your group a talk on their work within police and court custody. Information stall in Gorton

On Thursday, three of us went down to Tesco Extra in Gorton to raise awareness of mental health issues and also of our group and Rethink Mental Ilness. One of our group members, Jonathan, who organised the stall, said: "A ​surprising amount of individuals who talked to me about their own experiences of mental illness, either on a personal or family level." We have a new meeting venue from October

To make our group more accessible, we have a new city centre meeting venue. Manchester Digital Laboratory, or ' MadLab ' for short, is a grassroots innovation organisation, based in Manchester UK. They focus on science, technology, arts and culture, and have very kindly offered us a meeting room for free. Huge thanks to MadLab! Our first meeting at MadLab will be on Wednesday 11th October at the usual time of 6 - 7:30pm. MadLab is located on Edge Street in the Northern Quarter, just a short walk from Piccadilly Station, Piccadilly Gardens and Shudehill Metrolink. We're meeting this Wednesday 13th September at Manchester Carers Centre. All are welcome as ever. Manchester Carers Centre is located at Bridge5Mill, 22a Beswick Street, Manchester, M4 7HR. Parking is available on street locally from 6pm or you can park round the corner on Piercy Street in front of Tony's Chippy any time. The nearest Metrolink stop is Holt Town (Ashton-under-Lyne line) which is a 5 minute walk. Bridge5Mill can be a bit hard to spot from the street - it's an old mill building next to the canal but there is a banner with 'Bridge5Mill' strung up on the railings. The entrance is through iron gates and down some steps or a ramp. Next meeting this Weds 12th July

Our next meeting is this  Wednesday 12th July  at Manchester Carers Centre from  6 - 7:30pm .  Adelene O'Connor, a trainee clinical psychologist who came to chat with us back in May about her research is popping back to  update us and see if anyone would be interested in participating. Her research is about  family members'/carers' experiences of supporting their relative who has decided to stop their prescribed medication. AGM this Wednesday 14th June

Our AGM will be held this Wednesday 14th June from 6 - 7:30pm at Manchester Carers Centre, Bridge5Mill, 22a Beswick Street, Manchester, M4 7HR. P arking is available on street locally from 6pm or you can park round the corner on Piercy Street in front of Tony's Chippy any time. The nearest Metrolink stop is Holt Town (Ashton-under-Lyne line) which is a 5 minute walk. We won't start the AGM proper until 6:15 to give everyone time to arrive and have a cuppa first. Agenda 1. Change of group name  2. Election of officers & proposal to remove 'Service user representative' office role 3. Finance report 4. AOB The AGM should last for about half an hour, which leaves us some time afterwards for a general catch up.

Meeting today, Weds 8th March

We're meeting today,  Wednesday 8th March  at Manchester Carers Centre from  6 - 7:30pm .  We don't have any speakers booked so it's a chance for us to have a relaxed evening talking through any issues we'd like to raise. Bridge5Mill is easy to get to from the city centre - it's 5 minutes walk from Holt Town metrolink stop. There is parking on most streets around the Mill from  6pm . Directions for travelling by tram, on foot, by bike, bus and car are all available on the Bridge 5 Mill website here  http://www.merci.org.uk/drupal/visiting . As car parking isn't free until  6pm , as ever you're welcome to stroll in after 6 so you can get parked up without any bother. We'll be meeting this coming  Wednesday 8th February  at Manchester Carers Centre from  6 - 7:30pm .  Patrick Cahoon from the newly formed Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (what was Greater Manchester West and Manchester MH Trust combined) is coming to give us an update.
