Meeting next THURSDAY 13th September

Due to venues issues, we will be meeting this coming THURSDAY 13th September at the usual time of 6 - 7:30pm at MadLab - PLEASE ALSO NOTE NEW LOCATION. Whether you've been coming to the group for years or have never been, we're here to give you a warm welcome and a friendly ear. Free tea, coffee and biscuits for all.

Meetings will take place on the second Thursday of the month for the foreseeable future.

Our AGM
We have had to postpone our AGM from May until September due to venue issues and the football world cup.  It will take place from 6:15 - 6:30pm on Thursday 13th.

Our group is developing our partnership with the Manchester Carers Centre (Carers Trust) to provide a confidential support group for carers. It will be an opportunity for carers to share their experiences in confidence with other carers of those who have a mental or physical illness. A carer can be anyone who cares for or about someone and can be a partner, sibling, family member, friend, colleague, neighbour etc. We will keep you informed about when this new service will start.

This Friday at 11am our Group Chair, Lindsey Cree, is being interviewed on BBC Radio M/c, 95.1 FM by Heather Stott. Lindsey will be talking about carers of those with a mental illness. Do tune in if you can. Good luck Lindsey we know you'll be great!

Mental Health Screening in Police Custody: Recruiting for Research project

We've been sent details of a research project - details below if you would like to read more and get involved. The main aim of the project is to improve current practices surrounding the identification of mental health problems for people in contact with the police, through increasing access to timely and appropriate referral to mental health professionals . The project focuses on the gap in police access to mental health services on the evenings and weekends when there is a high turnover of people through custody. The project is a collaboration between the Offender Health Research Network, University of Manchester and LancashireCare NHS Foundation Trust. If interested, you are welcome to participate in the following ways; 1. Interview (1 x 1 hour) (May 2011 - Jan 2012) 2.
