CLAHRC Festival

The aims of the festival is to promote the physical health of people with serious mental disorders. Also, to engage local stakeholders including NHS Trusts, Public Health, mental health charities and 3rd sector organisations.

Our Manchester Rethink Group will be part of the festival activities by creating an art project that represents Hope. The aim is for each person to draw or write something that represents positivity or hope to them (there will be lots of coloured pens, felts, paints etc). At the end of the session we will collate everyone’s contribution and make a collage. We hope this will produce a myriad of words, shapes and colours!

If you are interested in taking part or just coming along, please let me know so we can cater for refreshments etc. The event will take place on: Thursday 18th June 11-1pm at Manchester Carers Centre Vulcan Mill 12-18 Pollard St M4 7AN Tel Lindsey Cree 07757 082976 or email rethinkmanchester@gmail.com to let us know you are coming!

During the week 15th – 19th June there will be lots of CLAHRC festival activities throughout Manchester. Our group is developing our partnership with the Manchester Carers Centre (Carers Trust) to provide a confidential support group for carers. It will be an opportunity for carers to share their experiences in confidence with other carers of those who have a mental or physical illness. A carer can be anyone who cares for or about someone and can be a partner, sibling, family member, friend, colleague, neighbour etc. We will keep you informed about when this new service will start.

Park House relocation transport update

As readers of this blog may know, Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust is in the process of relocating psychiatric inpatient services from Edale House at the Central Manchester Hospital (MRI) site to Park House at North Manchester General Hospital. We've always been concerned about the impact that this move will have on carers and service users in terms of increased transport times. A representative from the Trust came to our meeting last month to update us on plans for transport and the Trust's latest newsletter contains the following update on the service user and carer transport sub-group: "The group last met on 6 February and it was decided that another visitor questionnaire should be undertaken to make sure that we make the right  decisions about transport.  It was also agreed that more engagement and       communication with service users is necessary and  the service users and carers who attend the meetings will support this....

Radio star

This Friday at 11am our Group Chair, Lindsey Cree, is being interviewed on BBC Radio M/c, 95.1 FM by Heather Stott. Lindsey will be talking about carers of those with a mental illness. Do tune in if you can. Good luck Lindsey we know you'll be great!
