Speaker for our meeting 10th September

The Public Mental Health Team (which is part of the Manchester Health and Wellbeing Service) works to improve the mental health of Manchester people and prevent mental ill-health. Their main strategy is to equip a wide range of organisations with a greater ability to support the mental health of the people with whom they work. This is done mainly through theirprovision of training, resources, information and collaborative working.

Catherine Parsons, Public Health Project Worker from the Wellbeing Service will be coming along from 6.45 – 7.45pm to give us a one hour session about ‘Mood and Food’ - how what we eat affects our mood + healthy eatingCatherine is willing to come along to present other sessions (below) at other times so if you have a preference do let us know!

These courses are about how to look after your mental health and can cover a range of topics including:

 1.       From distress to de-stress – how stress affects you and how to relax

2.       Improve your mood – understand depression + how to manage low mood

3.       Food + Mood – how what you eat affects your mood + healthy eating (Weds 10th Sept 2014)

4.       Unwind your mind – understand anxiety + how to manage worries

5.       Build yourself up – understand self esteem + how to feel better about yourself

6.       Sleep Well – what is good and bad for sleep + how to improve your sleep

Radio star

Park House relocation transport update

As readers of this blog may know, Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust is in the process of relocating psychiatric inpatient services from Edale House at the Central Manchester Hospital (MRI) site to Park House at North Manchester General Hospital. We've always been concerned about the impact that this move will have on carers and service users in terms of increased transport times. A representative from the Trust came to our meeting last month to update us on plans for transport and the Trust's latest newsletter contains the following update on the service user and carer transport sub-group: "The group last met on 6 February and it was decided that another visitor questionnaire should be undertaken to make sure that we make the right  decisions about transport.  It was also agreed that more engagement and       communication with service users is necessary and  the service users and carers who attend the meetings will support this....
